Chattanooga, TN:
After finishing in the top 100 spots of all competitors of the Pepsi Refresh Everything Project for the month of August, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for pediatric cancer has earned a spot in September’s Pepsi Refresh competition. The Foundation’s application “Hatch’s house of hope: Empowering children with cancer and their families” will once again be vying for a $250,000 grant, competing against other “fresh ideas” from across the country.

“We are so fortunate to have had the votes in August to get to compete in September. Thank you to everyone who supported the Foundation and its mission to equip families with the tools necessary to cope in the face of a cancer diagnosis,” said Amy Jo Osborn, President of the Austin Hatcher Foundation. We hope that everyone will keep voting daily this month, as well as help us find new supporters to vote. $250,000 will go a long way to help Hatch’s provide these necessary services for families dealing with pediatric cancer.”

August Summer Series at Hatch’s house of hope
Monday, July 26th, 2010Auction of Volkswagen Turbo Diesel Race Car Raises $80,000 For Austin Hatcher Foundation at First Barrett Jackson Orange County.
Wednesday, July 7th, 2010Ooltewah, TN: The MK5 SPEED World Challenge Volkswagen Jetta Turbo Diesel Race Car donated to the Austin Hatcher Foundation by Chili Pepper Racing was auctioned at Barrett Jackson Orange County on June 27, 2010. Total proceeds from the auction topped $80,000. The car, the world’s first professional bio-diesel Touring Series race car, was built by Chili Pepper Racing LLC in 2006. The car was unveiled at the American Le Mans Series Petit Le Mans in September of 2006 and debuted at Sebring International Raceway in March of 2007.
Speaking at the auction, Jim Osborn, MD, MSPH, Co-Founder of the Austin Hatcher Foundation told the crowd about his son, Austin Hatcher Osborn, who passed away from an aggressive form of pediatric cancer shortly after the car was unveiled at the 2006 Petit Le Mans.
Bidding quickly moved to $30,000, but before the gavel fell, something amazing happened. As the Osborn family stood on stage, $5000 and $10,000 donations for the Foundation began flying from the audience. “We are so appreciative of Barrett Jackson and all of those who bid on the car and made donations to the Foundation,” said Jim. “The proceeds from this auction will go a long way to help families affected by pediatric cancer. We just can not thank those in attendance and the staff at Barrett-Jackson’s Orange County event enough for their support.”

Inaugural Orange County auction beat expectations, auction says; VW charity sale thrills Sunday crowd.
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010Early crowd estimates from Barrett-Jackson were 17,000 on Friday and 30,000 on Saturday, with the numbers still out for Sunday. They had hoped to attract 50,000 people over the three days of the new event, Jackson said, and it seems that number was reached, including Sunday.
The unlikely sale of a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta bio-diesel race car, hardly the stuff of car-collector dreams, raised the roof late Sunday and provided a signature high point for the entire weekend, with bidders and donors scrambling to open their wallets for a worthy cause.
The professionally prepared Jetta TDI touring racer was offered as a personal charity car by a family that had lost an 11-week-old infant to cancer, prompting them to start a foundation in his name and donate their race car to raise funds for it.
Jim Osborn, standing on stage with his wife, Amy, and their two small children, broke down as he told the story of the brief life of Austin Hatcher Osborn. The charity is named after him: the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.
Bidding started briskly for the VW, but stalled at $30,000. And then something amazing happened.
From the crowd seated in front of the auction stage, one man added a donation of $10,000 to the price of the car, prompting the spectators to go wild with applause. Then, one-by-one, other audience members raised their hands to offer $5,000 donations for the foundation.
Even Barrett-Jackson added $5,000 to the growing pot, and so did the Carroll Shelby Foundation. And the buyer of the Jetta raised his own bid by $5,000.
When the smoke cleared, the little Jetta had raised $80,000 for the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
“Wow, folks, that just takes your breath away,” auction president Steve Davis told the cheering crowd.

Barrett-Jackson will also auction at No Reserve an exotic Panoz Esperante convertible (Lot #44) for the Chestnut Mountain Ranch. This hand-built roadster was built in Georgia at the same factory as the GT-2 Panoz race cars that won the 24 Hours of LeMans and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2006.
All proceeds from the auction of a 1962 Ford Thunderbird Sports Roadster (Lot #62) will benefit the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. The classic Ford still has its original V8 engine and was extensively restored.
Star Cars
“We’ve loaded our docket up with some pretty amazing cars to kick off our inaugural Orange County event,” added Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “Many of the star cars crossing the block are custom in every sense of the word. From serious horsepower upgrades to interior modifications that are finely tuned, these cars are true works of art.”
Many celebrities are expected to attend the Orange County auction, with several sending their cars to be sold. Several cars from TV’s wild West Coast Customs team will be offered at Barrett-Jackson. The company will sell four unique and powerful custom-tailored cars. A WCC car with star appeal is a 2006 Dodge Charger custom coupe (Lot #376.1) built to honor the original “Dukes of Hazzard” TV show. Lot #376 is a 2006 Cadillac Custom Four Door built for NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. The WCC team completely reworked the car with custom paint, wheels, audio and interior.

With a 340 engine, a 1971 Dodge Charger Custom Coupe (Lot #371) used by the Mod Squad will roll across the block. The MOPAR with its distinctive sport stripes, original-style wheels and chrome exhaust tips looks the same as it appeared during the filming of the television series.

The foundation has developed a landmark group of programs and services essential to help cancer stricken children and their families function within their community. All services provided by the Foundation are free of charge, funded solely by the generous donations of its supporters.
Hatch’s house of hope is a unique Austin Hatcher Foundation concept designed to empower children and families affected by pediatric cancer to thrive. The landmark cancer care center equips children and their family members with the educational, emotional and social skills necessary to succeed. Specifically, these services include Problem Solving Skills Training, neurocognitive testing, educational programming to help effected children overcome their cognitive and learning deficits, emotional counseling for the cancer affected child, their siblings and parents, and marital and financial counseling to ensure a safe environment to maximize the family growth as a whole. All services at Hatch’s are free to its guests, funded entirely by donations. Erlanger Medical Mall in Chattanooga, TN, is the site of the first Hatch’s house of hope, which opened September 18, 2009. This Hatch’s is the model for other Hatch’s in the planning stages nationwide. For more information, visit www.hatcherfoundation.org or www.hatcherfoundation.org.
