Special Events Intern
About this Role
Location: 1705 S. Holtzclaw Ave, Chattanooga, Tennessee, 37404. Office hours are M-Th 8:30-5:30; remote on Friday
Hours: This is a paid internship. Flexible based on student’s internship requirements and Foundation hours of operation. Intern may work up to 16 hours per week.
The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer’s mission is to erase the effects of pediatric cancer and optimize each child’s quality of life through essential specialized intervention beginning at the time of diagnoses and continuing throughout survivorship. The Foundation provides services to children with cancer as well as their families through the Education Advancement Center. The foundation provides all services at no cost to the families. Services are funded solely by the generous donations of its supporters.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote the company’s vision and create awareness for the Foundation while learning and adhering to Foundation Brand Guidelines
- Research current trends and suggest development and improvement within Foundation events and community presence
- Help plan, coordinate, execute and evaluate special events for the Foundation, including donor events, fundraising galas, and other events as needed per season
- Assist with event details and logistics
- Serve as liaison with vendors/clients on event-related matters
- Assist with managing on-site production and clean up for events
- Assist with recruitment of sponsorships and/or auction items
- Assist with recruitment and training of volunteers for events
- Make contacts and create schedules for events
- Prepare materials and mailings for fundraisers (newsletters, invitations, etc.)
- Propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process
- Attend in-person and virtual committee meetings for major special events
- Utilize internship experience and observations to create an AHF Events Analysis to present to operations team, offering suggestions and key learnings from internship
- Input event and participant data into Foundation’s Online Donor Management System
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Currently only accepting applications for Fall 2025 Term (8/25/25 - 12/5/25). Preference given to applicants who can commit to 12+ hours per week.
- Enrolled in an undergraduate program in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management or related field
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills throughout in-person meetings and online
- Ability to function and perform multiple tasks for various events + marketing strategy on a daily basis
- Valid driver's license to drive as needed to local businesses for meetings and event planning
