About this Role

We are seeking an experienced, energetic, and passionate occupational therapy student/intern to gain clinical skills with our pediatric clients. We love providing families with the tools they need to not only survive, but thrive in their survival of a pediatric cancer diagnosis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate and publicize AHF’s mission and values to the community 
  • Verbalize and carry out OT’s distinct value when working with families and team members 
  • Collaborate with OTR to set and meet individual learning goals 
  • Reflect upon clinical practice abilities 
  • Work with other team members as part of an interprofessional treatment plan
  • Use time effectively with as represented on Google Calendar 
  • With supervision of an OTR:
  • ~Develop an OT treatment plan through evaluation, use of clinical knowledge, judgment, and therapeutic skills 
  • ~Creatively engage clients in individualized client-led therapeutic tasks based upon their interests and needs 
  • ~Facilitate the development of cognitive, fine motor, sensory processing, social, emotional, behavior skills through evidence-based techniques 
  • ~Evaluate client’s strengths/weaknesses through clinical observation, standardized and informal assessment, teacher/parent report, and medical history in order to develop individualized treatment, goals, and plan of care
  • ~Develop their individual role as a dynamic component of therapeutic group interventions including but not limited to family events, day camps, and day programming 
  • ~For capstone students, assess current programming at AHF and plan/implement program modifications or development

Requirements

  • Current Enrollment in Occupational Therapy Program or students pursuing Occupational Therapy as a profession 
  • Interest and experience working with a variety of age groups including toddlers, preschoolers, and/or school-age populations through young adult 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office and Google platform apps and working with databases 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Comfortable working with a diverse population
