CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Jan. 9, 2023) – On April 27, women across Chattanooga will dust off old wedding, prom and bridesmaids’ dresses for an evening of food, fashion from the past, music and fun. Each year, The Moth Ball® by CityScope® benefits a different Hamilton County nonprofit that supports women in need. This year, the Ball benefits the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, the nation’s only 100%-free whatever-it-takes-to-empower-families-to-thrive pediatric cancer foundation.
The Moth Ball® by CityScope® is the largest single event attended by women in the Chattanooga area. Founded in 2012 by Terri Holley and Alison Lebovitz, the Ball has raised over $365k to support nonprofit organizations in the Chattanooga area.
The Austin Hatcher Foundation is honored to be this year's beneficiary, as all of the proceeds will go to help the Foundation erase the negative impact of pediatric cancer on families. A pediatric cancer diagnosis disrupts the family’s quality of life, and women most often assume the role of primary caregiver. Research shows that while both parents are affected greatly by their child’s diagnosis, women are impacted the most with high levels of anxiety, correlated with post-traumatic stress, difficulties making decisions, loss of memory, difficulty with concentration and insomnia. At no cost, Austin Hatcher’s programs provide psychosocial and psychological services for women and their families facing pediatric cancer. Funds raised at the Moth Ball® will directly impact women and children in Chattanooga at the Austin Hatcher Foundation.
“We are thrilled that the 2023 Moth Ball® beneficiary is the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer,” said George Mullinix, owner of CMC Publications. “We anticipate another sellout crowd and a sizable gift to support this very important organization. Tickets are selling fast, so ladies need to get their tickets now to the most fun, biggest event for women to benefit women.”
The event will take place at The New Signal (21 Choo Choo Avenue) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can be purchased starting at $75 at https://themothball.org/. The Moth Ball® by CityScope® has sold out every year for the past five years, so interested attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets as soon as possible. Attendees must be female, over age 21.
Volunteers are also needed to help for this year's Moth Ball®. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact Georgia@HatcherFoundation.org. (Must be female over age 21).
Funds raised through The Moth Ball® by CityScope® directly impact and provide services for women, children and families with the tools to cope in the present and thrive in the future after childhood cancer. Families of the foundation are provided with services such as Mental and Behavioral Health Therapy, Occupational Therapy, NeuroPsych Testing, Family Programs and more at absolutely no cost to them.
