Coping Skill of the Month: Breathing Technique

At the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer, we understand that the journey through childhood cancer is as emotionally challenging as it is physically demanding. Families navigating this difficult path often encounter overwhelming stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue. That's why we're excited to introduce our new blog series, "Coping Skill of the Month."

In this series, we'll share practical, easy-to-implement techniques designed to help children, teens, and their families manage the emotional challenges of living with and beyond pediatric cancer. These coping skills are simple yet powerful tools that can be used anytime, anywhere, to bring a sense of calm, focus, and emotional balance.

Each month, we'll spotlight a different coping skill that can help reduce stress, improve emotional resilience, and foster a sense of control during times when life feels unpredictable. Our goal is to provide families with a toolkit of strategies that support their well-being as they navigate the ups and downs of their cancer journey.

We hope these techniques will empower families to find moments of peace and strength, even in the most trying times.

Coping Skill of the Month: August

A breathing technique you can do anywhere:

Using your pointer finger to trace your five fingers on your opposite hand. Start with your thumb and trace up to your fingernail as you breathe in, and exhale while your index finger meets between your thumb and index finger. Continue all the way to your pinky finger.
